Estoy en Barcelona!

Hola Amigos!

Bienvenidos a mi blog. Just kidding. I mean, yeah, this is it, but it's going to be in English. So... I told a bunch of people that I'd send e-mail updates about what I'm doing, but I've decided that this will be easier. Y'all won't have to get long and annoying e-mails to read when you don't want to AND you can be a creepster and check this site as often as you want. Great, eh?

Alright, let's start at the very beginning (a very good place to start)...

I began packing at around 10PM on Saturday night. I finished the next morning (January 13th) and then it was off to Portland Jetport, hooray! First I flew to Philadelphia, and then to London, and finally to Barcelona. I met a few girls from my program (CIEE) when I was boarding the plane in London, which was good. What wasn't good was finding out that my luggage was lost when I arrived in Barcelona. In fact, it sucked a load.

We got picked up by our CIEE "Guardian Angels" (Universitat de Barcelona students) and went to the hotel for orientation. By the way, we had a three day orientation. Real classes start at the UB on February 4th and until then, we have to take an intensive Spanish "writing and stylisitics" course that lasts for four hours a day. Yay. No. Useful. Probably.

Yesterday, I moved into my residencia... a Spanish student dorm. It's pretty nice, but guess what? The food is provided by Sodexho. Es correcto. It's like they're impossible to escape. The food in the residencia is pretty bad too. Boooo. The food in restaurants, on the other hand, is quite good. The residencia has a gym, a pool table, a bar, a tv room that looks like an airport waiting room, and some other stuff.

We've taken a couple guided tours of Barcelona. The architecture here is insane. Last night, some friends and I tried to look for a bar. Before we left, we were warned by a Spanish student to not go out on a Tuesday because nothing would be open. We totally should have listened. We ended up just walking around for an hour and getting lost and tired.

I suppose that's all I'm going to say for now. By the by, me writing this blog doesn't mean I don't want to be e-mail buddies with people... so e-mail it up! laurasaurusrexx@gmail.com por favor... hope to hear from some cool people soon (no lamers, please... just joshin', I know all of my friends are pretty lame. Joshin' again! ... Or am I?)

muchlove,
LAURA

Hey laura, Ive been taking some courses here in BCN and I really like your blog, the architecture its pretty nice and I loooved the beach, because its very modern and has contrast with the old part of the city. Bars in this area are very cool. Im studying near the UB right in zona universitaria and I like it very much, the enviroment its pretty cool. I have to say that the restaurants here in BCN aren´t my favorite eather but I manage to cook at my apartment. Spanish courses are doing well, to help others Im giving my experience to them I found my school at http://barcelona.spanishcourse-in-spain.com I mean you have to learn the language if you are going to be in this city. On saturday I had the opportunity to go to the carnaval in Sitges, which I have to say it was pretty fun, lots of students were there. I saw a lot of different costumes, some of them were very very weird and funky but in general all of them are very cool.
I suppose you did some shopping on the city, from what I heard Paseo the Gracia it´s the place to be, you can find all this high designers boutiques and also very nice restaurants. I have met a lot international students, from all over Europe, germany, holland, switzerland, italy, bulgaria, rumania and also from brazail, peru, mexico, ecuador, bolivia. I have to tell you that one of the coolest things Ive done during my time here its going to a soccer match. The FCB its simply and incredible team and it has very good players. The stadium, Camp Nou its very pretty and huge. One part of the city I also liked its Gracia, you know it has a lot of hills so you have to wear proper footwear, that is were park guel is.

Nice hearing from ur experiences and good luck.

See you!!
